 There's just no doubt about it. B&B inns have been all the rage with a long life span. Perhaps it's the idea of sleeping in a place, far from home, that has a homey atmosphere where you're often pampered, get a great breakfast and sleep like a baby. The saying is true, "There is no place like home," and that's why B&B inns have had that charismatic, romantic charm about them that makes them so appealing. Whether they are out in the woods, near the beach, or in a city, they make for spectacular New England getaways.
The thing to remember, though, is that you are sleeping in someone else's house, and as such, B&B inns do have rules by which you need to abide. For instance, if you're planning on taking a pet along with you, call the inn first and make sure it's pet friendly. Some are not only pet friendly, but bend over backwards to accommodate your pets. Some will allow you to bring them with conditions, such as while the pet (we're talking dogs and cats here, not boa constrictors) is in the room it must be housed in a cage. Fortunately, there are wonderful dog and cat houses that fold flat when not in use.
Make sure, too, that children are welcome. Basically speaking, when you make a reservation, it's a good idea to do so by phone if you're bringing more than yourself and a significant other. You need to know ahead of time, who and what animals are premitted, what the rates are (of course) and what the refund policy of any particular inn may be. They have different rules, so it's a good idea to assume nothing and make absolutely certain that who and what you want to bring will be welcome.

a historical home built in the early 1700's. It was built in
the Saltbox style, then a Colonial style brick home was added
to the side. The bricks came from England, and the hand carved
wood molding was made from the butternut trees that used to be
